Really not happy with the results, though, because I'm getting a cold and I can hear myself breathing really loudly throughout. If it hadn't been for that, it would have sounded wonderful (to me, anyway). Tough to record any show that varies so much from quiet as a mouse to VERY LOUD, too. A friend of mine taped too, so I might not have to subject anyone to my cold!

Posts: 306 (09/09/08 23:00:23) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	And here's a sum-up: I woke very early, had no sleep and flew from Toulouse to Gatwick. My friend Ben picked me up and we were hanging around waiting to go to Islington... I met a lot of people like Simon here, Thomas ("tacoffey" from Youtube), David "Aleruty" after the show and other people, I'm sorry I'm not good at names but I was so glad to meet them all! We went all into the Bar of the Union Chapel, were not allowed to drink in it and were told that Gemma had finished the soundcheck and could show up a bit there. That wasn't really true, but we had drinks and chats. Simon and other friends reserved me a place at the first row of seats while I had to give my best friend his ticket outside. So really...thanks guys, you knew how much I wanted and so it was amazing to be so close! I missed a bit of the first support act, one eskimo but loved the last song!! Ann Scott went after, she's good but I don't feel so amazed especially when with the last song...it was like she sang out of tone on purpose. But I should listen more of her to give a complete opinion. Joe Chester was sitting nearby and took pictures of her. Then it was like 9:30 when Gemma came on stage with Joe and the drummer, she was dressed in a black tee-shirt with stars on the top left shoulder, really cute! The set was shorter, time delays I think but she was amazing all the time. I loved the vibes on the BSS cover, "out of our hand" and "oliver". At the end, everybody went out and me and friends were waiting a bit, in the hope to see her again....but a man came, told us that she won't came, that it was not necessary to wait... So I just simply asked him if he could go to see her and tell my name... 2 minutes later, she came back real fast with a bier in her hand and we met like if we knew each other since years...it was really sureal, full emotions and I have really no words! it happened and it was more than I expected. And so I gave her a Gillian Welsh DVD that I saw a few weeks ago when I was in Amsterdam because I really like this artist too now. That was me giving her something in order to have something signed. I don't like signed things in fact. Ah! she signed on a girl breast, funny! And so other french people were there especially for that show and so I think she realised something because we made a hand check to get that Paris show soon. I didn't want to leave and wanted to get a train to Birmingham, lol! But it was good enough (noo I'm kidding I feel terrible now, a bit sad that things happened so fast, but life's like that! ) This dream came true thanks to all the friends I met there, so thank you very much! it was worth the wait!!!

The rest of the photos are too blurry unfortunately, as all these were taken without flash - and I've yet to get a digital SLR. I'm wondering whether Gemma could consider lengthening her shows now? She has 3 albums and lots of extra and new material. On the timings it said 9:15-10:30, perhaps 9-10:30 would be about right and would fit in 3 more songs? I didn't feel the audience was ready to go?
